Sharon Van Etten – Everytime the Sun Comes Up
A slow burner sort of song that drifts somewhere between Lucinda Williams and Patti Smith. “We broke your glasses, but covered our asses” is just the beginning of one hell of a night.
Wussy – Teenage Wasteland
Terrible band name, great song. Stuck in a cornfield with only a transistor radio, this ode to teenage angst hasn’t been expressed any better since Daltry and the boys back in the day.
Sturgill Simpson – Life of Sin
Most of the songs from Metamodern Sounds in Country Music could have made this list, but “Life of Sin” is just the ticket if your are looking for good old fashioned Outlaw Country served Metamodern style.
Shovels and Rope – Evil
Dirty Blues White Stripes style.
St. Paul and the Broken Bones – Call Me
The breakout blue eyed soul singer of 2014, “Call Me” is a Stax Soul approved belter.
