It has already been a stellar year for new releases with the new Spoon album and The War on Drugs showing that rock is not dead, First Aid Kit making another record that is surely to be in the top 5 of the year, Ray LaMontagne laying down the Laurel Canyon album of the year and Rival Sons crafting the best pure Rock album in over a decade.
In the next 45 days or so, we should see a rush on some excellent new releases as the artists scramble to get their record out in time for Christmas. Here are five very groovy releases that are scheduled to be released tomorrow that should make their way to the top of the best-of lists for 2014.
In what is most probably the single strongest release week of the year, Robert Plant continues his assault on Americana music and delivers his own personal Rock God twist on the genre, Ryan Adams is back with a self-titled record that should put him back in the groove, and Delta Spirit continues to treat the ears with another solid set of Indie Pop.
The best of the lot just might be The Strumbellas, a Canadian outfit that has more than a passing resemblance to mid seventies era Beach Boys, and that is never a bad thing. Finally Justin Townes, son of Steve Earle, an artist that is simply incapable of putting out a bad record, is back with Single Mothers, showing once again that when it comes to songwriting, in this case the apple most definitely does not fall far from the tree.
Robert Plant – Rainbow (Lullaby……and the Ceaseless Roar)
Ryan Adams – Gimme Something Good (Ryan Adams)
