phoxEverything about Phox, the debut album from Phox seems to be cool. From the rustic cabin mantle look of the cover, to the Pastoral Pop that washes around you on virtually every song, the fact that this album exists in the world provides a calming influence. It is so laid-back cool that it makes sense that it was recorded at Justin Vernon’s Wisconsin cabin. Frontwoman Monica Martin puts things over the top on songs like “Kingfisher” and “Shrinking Violets.” Further study is definitely recommended on this one.
