Finishing second behind Gary Clark Jr. for Band of the Year in the 2012/2013 prestigious Austin Music Awards voting The Wheeler Brothers with Gold Boots, their latest set of Rock,Folk,Roots, Americana, and Blues songs are ready to make a run for the number one spot in next years poll. Despite not winning the big one, the guys pretty much cleaned up on the rest of the award winning “Best New Band”, “Best Roots Rock Band”, Nolan Wheeler for “Best Acoustic Guitar”, Tyler Wheeler for “Best Bass”, and A.J. Molyneaux for “Best Miscellaneous Instrument” for lap steel. Meanwhile, their label, Bismeaux Records was named “Best Local Label”.
Recording most of the album on their hill country ranch, the brothers Nolan, Patrick, and Tyler Wheeler along with A.J. Molyneaux and Nathan Rigney honed their sound to a much more polished sheen from 2011’s Portraits, with the new album having a much more live feel to it than the predecessor
lyrically, the songs reflect life on the road which makes sense as much of the album was written while the band was holed up in a Wichita snowstorm in 2012. There is a real old school vibe to the band that harkens back to the land of Poco and The New Riders of the Purple sage, with a hint of The Outlaws. They can banjo with the best of them, and the Americana Pop sheen they apply to most of their songs will make you want to drive through the hill country with the top down.
